The Benefits Of Membership

People are the most important aspect of our organization and belonging to a club at a local level provides many tangible and intangible benefits. Local benefits vary between clubs, but include education, community beautification, friendships, and gardening.

Belonging to a club affiliated with The Gardeners of America/Men’s Garden Clubs of America provides additional benefits including:

  • Optional membership, at a very favorable discount, in the American Horticultural Society,  through a revised partnership with TGOA/MGCA  (Effective 01/01/07)
  • The optional AHS membership includes subscription to The American Gardener, a bimonthly AHS magazine containing useful gardening information and professional quality photographyPublished by AHS.
  • A new TGOA/MGCA Newsletter, sent bimonthly to all TGOA/MGCA  members and posted on this website, containing information about clubs and the headquarters.  (Effective 01/01/07)

A plethora of TGOA/MGCA national sponsored programs continue as in the past:

  • Exclusive Discounts, Gift Certificates and other offers for members;  from major gardening vendors
  • Youth Gardening providing knowledge and national funding for selected projects for youth
  • Gardening From the Heart providing community service for projects that benefit disadvantaged and aging gardeners
  • Big Pumpkin and Giant Sunflower Contests encouraging kids to grow plants
  • Photography Contest honoring the talents of photographers through publication of their photos at a national level
  • Awards Program recognizing clubs and members for exemplary service and contribution
  • Scholarships funding education for horticulture students
  • Gardener's Calendar reminding gardeners of beauty throughout the year
  • Lending Library containing an extensive assortment of literature
  • Audio/Visual Library housing garden and horticulture-oriented slide programs with audiocassettes and VCR programs
  • National Publications helping clubs work better by providing club organizing brochures, officer guides and more
  • Leadership providing opportunities through national conventions, regional conventions, and elected officers
  • Web site sharing up to date information for members and club officers
